 South Sudan General toasts to Rwanda development agenda

The Chief of General Staff of Sudanese Peoples Liberation Army (SPLA), Gen Paul Malong Awan in Rwanda commended country’s milestone towards national development gains.

He made remarks on September 10, 2015 after concluding his four day official visit to Rwanda applauded RDF for contribution to national development.

Awan commended Rwanda for the development he witnessed during his visit.

He said that he has realized that the Government and the people of Rwanda have joined their hands to build the country.

“I have seen today that the Nation of Rwanda is growing with good confidence of its people,” he said.

Adding that what he witnessed in Rwanda has taught him that what matters first is the will of the people to do things and not necessary the availability of resources.

The SPLA Chief said his visit was aimed at sharing military experiences with Rwanda Defence Forces and also fostering cooperation.

The SPLA Commander and his delegation on 9th September 2015 visited some of Rwanda Defence Forces institutions including ZIGAMA Credit and Savings Society (ZIGAMA CSS) where the delegation followed briefs on the mission, vision, products and services offered by the cooperative.

Brig Gen Albert Murasira highlighted how far ZIGAMA CSS has helped its members to improve their lives through savings culture and obtaining loans.

The delegation was also briefed on Military Medical Insurance (MMI) by Lt Col J Paul Bitega who highlighted that MMI’s activities in ensuring affordable access to quality health care to the military and their families.

Lt Col (Rtd) Claude Mugabo presented different projects run by Horizon Group of Companies such as Horizon construction, Horizon Logistics and SOPYRWA that deal in pyrethrum farming and processing among others.

The SPLA Delegation also visited the RDF Command and Staff College at Nyakinama, Musanze District.

Awan was briefed on the development of the College, now running its fourth Intake with 48 students including those coming from EAC partner states plus students from South Sudan, Malawi and Zambia.

Since it was inaugurated in 2012, the College has graduated 138 students including 16 allied students. The College also runs Junior Command and Staff Courses. The College is accredited to the University of Rwanda and offers a Masters of Arts degree and Postgraduate diploma in Security Studies.
